The Last Witnesses: A Look At The Black Boxes

A plane has crashed. Where do we find the answers why?

In the mid-afternoon hours of March 21st 2022, chaos arrived to the quiet landscape of a remote county in Southern China. Guangxi province’s Teng county, with a reputation for agricultural bounty and mountainous beauty, was relatively unknown to the wider world until a commercial airliner fell out of a clear blue sky, hurtling nose-down towards it’s fertile earth.

China Eastern Flight MU5735, a Boeing 737–200 with 132 souls on board was only an hour away from landing when it suddenly and inexplicably plummeted from a height taller than Mount Everest to around 7,200 feet, where it appeared to pull up for a momentary respite, before it plunged into a second final irrecoverable dive.

In the span of three minutes, all was lost. A hill-side obliterated; the forest around set ablaze. In the case of one family, it was their first flight, en route to a doctor in the city to treat their infant child.
